Counsellors’ Week (Gr. 10-12)

Camp provides a unique opportunity for youth to discover and build their own leadership skills. The goal of Counsellors’ Week is to develop the general skills of leadership that will be relevant for a lifetime, at school, at home and in the community. It is an opportunity for former campers to transition more formally into leadership roles.  We form our counsellors to embody the leadership, character, integrity, patience, and self-control that will serve future campers, their peers and others.
Participating in the Counsellors’ Week program will give counsellors an opportunity:
  • to gain a behind-the-scenes perspective of the camp program.
  • to acquire and exercise practical leadership skills.
  • to meet the other counsellors and camp staff that they will work with during camper weeks.
  • to contribute their unique gifts and talents during campers’ weeks.
  • to create lasting memories for the campers each week.
  • for retreat – to personally unplug and dedicate time to prayer and reflection.

Encounter (8-11’s)

Picture
For many campers this week will be their first experience of camp and/or being away from home.  Encounter Week is a great introduction to camp life. The program includes a wide variety of fun activities including archery, crafts, drama, outdoor adventures, flag wars, campfire, tug of war and swimming in the lake. Participants also have opportunities to encounter God through prayer, Mass, in nature, and through the new friends that they will meet!
Note: There are two Encounter Weeks, one in July and one in August. Campers are welcome to register in both weeks if they would like to spend more time at camp. Many activities would be the same but with a new group of friends each week it is always a new experience!

Adventure (11-14’s)

Picture
Our faith is a life-long adventure, centered on Christ and lived daily. The goal of Adventure Week is to equip participants to do this well.
Adventure Week allows campers to challenge themselves by forming new friendships, working together, and exploring new camp experiences. Participants will engage in exciting activities including advanced outdoor adventures, canoeing, group challenges and team building. Through these experiences campers will grow in their communication, problem solving and relationship skills. This week encourages participants to strengthen their faith in order to make a difference in the world. By developing positive friendships with a supportive camp community campers are encouraged to live out their faith by contributing their unique gifts and talents.

Explore (8-14’s)

Picture
Explore Week is for campers ages 8 – 14 years old. It also is an opportunity for families to send multiple children to camp to enjoy their week at the same time! There will be some activities specific to age groups, but many will include the whole group. Explore Week is a great chance to come for a second week for our campers who can’t get enough of camp!
This week is a mix of favorite camp activities. It is focused on exploring nature.  Hiking, scavenger hunts, nature crafts, explore a shore, bug watching, and mud pies are all part of the fun. Many studies support the benefits of outdoor play such as:
  • building confidence,
  • promoting imagination,
  • fostering creativity,
  • getting kids moving;
  • reducing stress, and
  • increasing resilience.
By providing an opportunity for connection to the environment we encourage campers to understand the importance of protecting our common home. OLVC is a large and beautiful property nestled in a natural forest on the shoreline of Alberta’s Gull Lake. It provides the perfect setting for the campers to explore and appreciate God’s creation.

Connect (Family Camp)

Now more than ever, families need to make time to be together. Life is busy and it is important to find opportunities for quality family time. This week includes activities for the whole family. Morning breakout sessions will allow adults to come together for speakers, discussion and community time while camp staff provide programming for their children (by age groups).  In the afternoon, families can choose from different popular camp activities including: archery, waterfront, outdoor adventures, Frisbee golf and other camp favorites or … nap time if that is what is most needed! Evenings offer whole group activities such as Flag Wars, our Board Game Café, outdoor movies, and campfire. There is also plenty of time for prayer as a community and as a family: Mass, morning/evening prayer, grace before meals, and many other unique prayer opportunities complete this quality family experience.

Teen Week (14-18’s)

This week provides teens with an opportunity to “choose my own adventure”. Participants have the choice of two tracks:
Track #1 Out-trip - Encountering Christ in Creation.  Come to OLVC for an extraordinary wilderness adventure.  Under the leadership of a guest Program Coordinator  participants will learn wilderness survival skills, outdoor cooking and other essential camping skills. At the same time, the week will focus on the ways in which God has left His fingerprints in the created world all around us. It promises to be a week of laughter, and exploration that participants won’t soon forget!
Track #2 Dive In.  Dive In will be a memorable week at OLVC where participants can begin to discover and understand the mission God has given them to be both a hearer of His Word and one who lives it as well. Under the leadership of guest program coordinator Mike Landry and other youth ministry veterans, participants will dive deeper into what it means to pray, learn how we share Christ with others, and explore the joy-filled journey of what it means to be a Catholic Christian. This will be a great week that equips participants with a stronger spiritual foundation for the upcoming school year.
Two exceptional camp experiences!  Which one will you choose
